3 Steps to Get Your Dream Home

Let’s be honest – finding a home is easy, but finding your dream home…not so much. With all the houses on the market today, it can be overwhelming trying to find the best house within your budget.

What if finding your dream home could be easier?

Three simple steps to make sure you find the house of your dreams:

1. Make a list
Sort of like a pros and cons, except only like the pros. List EVERYTHING you would like your home to have. Windows in the kitchen, 2-car garage, his and her sinks, 3 bedrooms, blue front door…you get the idea. What does this do? It shows you everything that you’re looking for – attainable or not – and gives you a starting point for your house search. Most likely, one house will not have everything on your list unless you build it yourself. That’s why there’s step #2.

2. Prioritize
Once you’ve made your list, go back through it and prioritize each item with #1 being the most important thing. This might be difficult depending on what is on your list, but it does give you the chance to see what the top 5 things you want in a house are. Make some hard decisions here: what would you be willing to give up in order to have those top 5 things? What are you unable/unwilling to sacrifice? This step makes that dream home more of a reality.

3. Be patient
If you’ve started your house search it doesn’t take long to see that there are a lot of options out there. It might be overwhelming, but you’re prepared now. Now, you have a list. Connect with a realtor and begin a search using the things on your list to filter your options. Remember: you’re looking for a house that has the most things on your list, but focusing mostly on those top 5. More than likely your list will narrow the search down to a handful of houses, and if you don’t see the one that meets your “want list” then be patient! New homes go on the market every day.
