4 Tips for Buying a Pet Friendly Home

One of the things St. Augustine is known for is how welcoming it is to your furry family members. With that being said, we want to make sure that you’ve got some insight on buying a home that is pet friendly. Here are 4 tips for buying a pet friendly home:

  1. Find a pet friendly realtor

This will make the process of buying a home so much smoother. Even just simply letting your realtor know that you have a pet can lead you in the right direction. We’re happy to say that all our realtors love pets, and we are more than happy to accommodate you and them!

  1. Consider your pets needs

Everything from a fenced in yard to whether your elderly dog can’t handle stairs, these are just a couple of things to consider when buying a home. Also consider “pet-scaping”. You want to know what kind of greenery is growing in and around your home to keep your pets safe from being poisoned.

  1.  Find a pet friendly neighborhood

A lot of times this can be overlooked. We tend to think that buying a home with a fenced in yard is enough. Maybe you will want to walk your dog or even find other pet owners to have a pet playdate with. Your pet will be just as much a part of the community as you are. We suggest taking a drive by the neighborhood you’re interested in, in the early morning or after 5 pm. These are likely the times you will see owners walking their pets.

  1. Vets and other services

Making sure that you are close enough to any veterinary services and emergency pet centers can be helpful in any situation involving your pet. Also consider how close you are to pet stores, dog parks, city parks, and paths where you can safely walk your dog.

Finding the perfect home can set the tone for not only your happiness, but your pets happiness. Take your time, and don’t rush the hunt. Reach out to one of our realtors for a fun and smooth experience for you and your pet.
